Q1. Tell us about a side project that has meant a lot to you.

My side project was what many now know as one of my main projects: Basbaas Foods. Pre-2015, I was modeling full time and using every spare moment to make Basbaas what it is today. When I finally found the courage to abandon the modeling industry, I was able to devote myself fully to my business.

Q2. Why is it important to have ownership of, and to pursue your own ideas?

For me, switching paths in 2015 is one of the moments I'm most proud of, because it was then that I realized I was hungry for ownership of my life. While modeling, I wasn't in control of my journey or narrative. I was at the beck and call of the industry. Making the leap and working for myself, and on something that was of my own creation, was incredibly freeing. I think it's so important for people to pursue their own ideas, and I want more to take the leap, because it makes for a creative, diverse, and exciting space in whatever industry they're a part of. In my industry, there is such a lack of individual stories and experiences. I'm doing my part to contribute my own story, and I want to encourage everyone to do the same.

Q3. What would you say to individuals trying and struggling to move their own side projects forward?

Really focus on what drives your desire to do what you do. Once you identify your WHY and know what you want, there's no question about it; you must go on. Consistency is key. STAY THE COURSE.
