Q1. Tell us about a side project that has meant a lot to you.

I have a short film I’m waiting to release called Close To Love, about a runaway bride returning to a former loved one. It’s a dance film. It’s a personal film and I’ve been wanting to make this film for years now, and we finally pulled it off about a year ago with a group of friends and collaborators. It was one of the best creative experiences of my life.

Q2. Why is it important to have ownership of, and to pursue your own ideas?

I’m constantly waiting for / creating the space to be able to pursue my own ideas. That’s really been my dream. To be able to speak and create without another agenda, without tampering. Commercial obligations get in the way of a more curious and risk-taking side of your creative mind. It's okay to create something that doesn't belong anywhere but your own fascinations.

Q3. What would you say to individuals trying and struggling to move their own side projects forward?

I would say -- remember your community. No matter what project you’re on or what you’re doing, always be present, connect with people, find your tribe. There are people all around you who all have their own private dreams and want to create something just as much as you. The more you foster those dreams for other people, the more you also reap from their generous spirit. We have to believe in and practice a collective spirit and make space for that to be real.
